Technology is becoming a hot topic in schools all over the world, even here in Colombia schools feel the pressure to have the best and newest technologies available. At our school, Colegio Karl C. Parrish, we have many forms of technology available to us. We have document cameras, video beam projectors, computers, laptop carts, clickers, wii remotes to use an an interactive whiteboard, smart boards, etc. However, not many people at the school use them, and even fewer use them effectively. Our issue comes down to training and sufficient time for experimentation with the new technology.
how you feel regarding technology in education and its place in the 21st century classroom. Technology must be integrated into classrooms in order to help our students succeed in the 21st century. But, this must be done effectively with lots of planning and support.

ReplyDeleteI think your last point is by far the most important for any school setting with technology: "this must be done effectively with lots of planning and support". Many of us, myself included, like to sometimes think technology will make things faster and easier, which can definitely be true, however many forms of technology are not something you can use without proper training and time. Just like anything, what you put into it is what you get out of it!
Oh the life at a posh Colombia school. They sent in professional photographers to do that for the yearbook!
ReplyDeleteBut yes, time is so important, we wouldn't want to rush into doing something and end up having to go backward to correct something huge before moving forward, and in the process loose faith from our followers!

ReplyDeleteFor the required planning and support, the administrators or directors need to be "convinced" that experimentation will bring alone what is needed: confidence. This hot topic can be translated into effective and proper training and the time that is something most teachers lack.
True very true, it seems that after all that has been talked about planning in advance, having a perspective, thinking ahead we still go and try to learn from trial and error. Kind of a bandwagon let's all jump towards including technological devices or softwares without been sure of what to do with them or how to take the best of them. Planning and support is important especially in technology where everyday there's something new and many things in a developmental stage. The constant academic battle, learn about something and when ready change into a new one or a better version of it....I guess our only choice is to face it!
